A quick guide to slideshows
There is one program that is free and easy to use, Microsoft PictureStory. It is limited in its control and versatility but I have seen
some good slide shows made with it. It is a good (and free) starting
point. The link is :-

The next step up is Proshow which many of you used for your shows
last night. It's good and solid and is where I started :-
www.photodex.com
The program I now use is 'PicturesToExe' :-
www.wnsoft.com.
It's written by a couple of Russian guys. It's probably a wee bit
more difficult to use than Proshow but is very powerful and enables
precise control over images, slides and music. It is USD $49 for the
standard version which produces PC shows and $75 for the deluxe
version that includes burning of DVDs.
There is an exceptional friendly and useful User Forum :-
www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index.php?showforum=2
There are several very knowledgeable contributors who are always
happy to help. Even the main developer, Igor, contributes regularly.
One contributor, Lin Evans, has produced an excellent, free, guide on
using the program :-

To produce a quick show I would still recommend Proshow but if you
want good quality presentation and versatile control of your slides
and images I feel that PicturesToExe is the best.
Unlike Proshow it doesn't include a Sound Editor; for that I'd
recommend the free, open source, sound editor, Audacity :-
www.audacity.sourceforge.net
All the above programs are unfortunately available only for the PC.
The developers of PicturesToExe have some Mac plans for the future
but for now the only program I know for the Mac is Fotomagico which
is good but not very powerful.
Hope that all helps.
Thanks for a great evening and thank you for the bottle of red which
will be consumed with dinner this evening !
Best regards,
Steve.
